Pre-Appointment Screening Process & Testing

IgG and IgM antibody testingThere is no higher priority to our Century Smile family than the safety of our patients and team members. All new patients will be required to go through a pre-screening process, please follow the link to learn more about become Century Smile Patient. Therefore we strongly encourage the rapid COVID-19 testing. All Century Smile team members are required to take a test on a weekly basis. The quantitative IgG and IgM antibody testing is available at our office for $35 per test. Antibody test, measures the amount of antibodies present in the blood when the body is responding to a specific infection, like COVID-19. This means the test detects the body’s immune response to the infection caused by the virus rather than detecting the virus itself. In the early days of an infection when the body’s immune response is still building, antibodies may not be detected. This test will show the antibodies that are being produced during the infection as well as the presence of antibodies created after the body has fought the decease. The results are ready in 15 minutes.

UV Sterilization

To ensure the safety and health of our patients and staff, we will also be using UV sterilization with a handheld device after each visit and an overnight sterilization through out the office for added protection. UV sterilization also known as UV disinfection or ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) works by breaking down certain chemical bonds and scrambling the structure of DNA, RNA and proteins, causing a microorganism to be unable to multiply. When a microorganism is unable to multiply, it is considered dead since it cannot reproduce within a host and is no longer infectious.

Oral Suction V105

Oral suction V105

To add a layer of protection, our hygienist is now using external Oral suction V105. It is a mobile dental electric suction machine, which quickly filters spray, aerosol, bacteria, viruses and other harmful substances during the treatment, by utilizing the high negative pressure produced by a brushless direct current motor. Scientific studies on amalgam removal have suggested that dentist, staff and the patients can be exposed to higher than normal levels of potentially harmful viruses, bacteria, mercury vapor and other contaminants. Placement and removal of amalgam fillings are common dental procedures that are not always performed safely. This device offers immediate chair-side defense providing a safe worry free environment for our patients.

An Update From The American Dental Association
The American Dental Association respectfully yet strongly disagrees with the World Health Organization’s recommendation to delay “routine” dental care in certain situations due to COVID-19, citing that dentistry is essential health care.

“Oral health is integral to overall health,” states ADA President Chad P. Gehani, D.D.S. “Dentistry is essential health care because of its role in evaluating, diagnosing, preventing or treating oral diseases, which can affect systemic health.”
